ABOUT US
What we do
About us
Park Hill Veterinary Clinic opened in April 2014, with the sole aim of providing first class 24/7 care for its patients. Our practice offers a caring, family feel to ensure that you and your pet receive a personal service.
Our diagnostic equipment includes digital X-ray, in house laboratory, ultrasound scanner, lapaaroscopy and a full range of up to date anaesthetic medicines, machines and monitors
We are a dedicated small animal practice providing 24-hour care. Our veterinary surgeons have strong interests in soft tissue surgery, medicine and diagnostics.
Our qualified nurses are available for consultations including weight clinics, health checks, diabetic clinics, nutrition, wound management, dental clinics and many more.
We are available for consultations on an appointment basis from 8:30am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am – 5pm on Saturday, as well as a late clinic on Thursdays 7.30-9.30pm. We provide our own emergency cover at night, over weekends and on all bank holidays. We are also happy to carry out home visits for animals and owners who struggle to get to the surgery.
In 2016, we achieved RCVS Accredited Status (General practice - small animal) of which we are extremely proud
Preventative care
We believe that early treatment is effective treatment, which is why we offer a wide range of preventative healthcare options, many of which can be obtained via our very cost-effective Pet Health Plan which provides all necessary treatments for a reasonable monthly payment. Fleas, ticks and worms are a threat to most pets and may be associated with a number of serious health complications. We can provide your pets with a variety of oral products, spot-ons and collars to protect them, so do telephone the surgery or pop in for advice individually tailored to your pet.
Regular health checks
Your pet might seem happy and healthy on the surface, but could have an underlying health condition that can only be detected by a full physical examination or further diagnostic procedures. For this reason we recommend six monthly health checks, including an annual vaccination, to ensure your pet stays as fit as possible.
Our Preventative Healthcare Plan can provide you with six monthly health checks , vaccination and all flea, worm and tick treatment, for an affordable monthly sum.
Dent
Dental Care
Your pet's oral health is just as important as the rest of their body, and dental disease can have serious consequences for other body systems. We undertake routine scaling and polishing and extractions if required under general anaesthetic, and our nurses can provide you with advice for your pet’s home dental care, including brushing techniques and the ideal products to use for continued oral health.
Dietary advice
We stock and recommend Hill's pet foods, both for routine life-stage feeding, and for conditions where a prescription diet is appropriate. We are able to offer specific advice regarding which diet, how much to feed and costings, and our nurses run regular clinics to assist with specific needs such as weight loss, kidney disease and diabetes.
Routine vaccinations
Vaccinations will protect your pet from a number of illnesses and are authorised for regular administration from a young age to ensure a long and healthy life. We believe, however that all medications should be given based on a risk-benefit assessment - Make an appointment with a vet to discuss your pet's individual needs.
More information on vaccinations can be found on the Services and Kitten and Puppy Care page.
Consultations
We take pride in offering comprehensive and compassionate health care . Some of our vets work part-time and consult on a rota basis so please let us know if you would like to see anyone in particular and we will do our best to accommodate you.
All consultations are by appointment, except of course when you have an emergency. Please ring our friendly reception team to arrange a convenient time.
A medical consultation is a chance to address your questions or concerns about your pet. No question is too small or too silly, and we are always happy to explain things - we strive to help you understand your pet's health conditions and make informed decisions.
Our consultations with a vet are scheduled for 15 minutes to allow a thorough examination and comprehensive discussion
Surgery
Park Hill is equipped to perform all routine surgical procedures on site, and we frequently accommodate a number of orthopaedic surgeons who come into the practice to perform more advanced procedures on our behalf. Our large purpose -built theatre is used for all our routine "clean" surgical procedures such as neutering , lump removals, exploratory laparotomy and wound reconstruction to minimise the risk of infection from wounds related to our 'dirty' procedures such as dental procedure, attending abscesses etc
Our large prep area is where animals are anaesthetised and prepared for operations in theatre. Blood samples and minor procedures are also carried out here.
There will always be a dedicated nurse and veterinary surgeon to look after your pet whilst under anaesthesia and they are monitored on a regular basis during recovery to make sure they are coming round well.
We are also fully equipped to undertake Keyhole (Laparoscopic) Surgery - click here for more details
Hospitalisation
The practice is equipped with a separate cattery and kennels for inpatients and provide spacious and airy accommodation for your pets during their time with us. The kennels contain large kennels for dogs over 10kgs, small kennels for smaller patients and 'walk in' kennel options for extra large/giant breeds.
The cattery contains rooms specially designed for cats where they can hide and have their privacy whilst recovering.
There are separate recovery kennels for patients that require constant monitoring post-operatively.
There is also a separate Isolation ward for animals which may have a potentially infectious disease and need to be kept separate from the other inpatients. At the moment we do not have staff on site all night, but all inpatients are checked by a vet between 9.30-11pm, with further checks as required throughout the night.
Nurse Clinics
Our fully-qualified Veterinary Nurses offer a variety of nurse clinics to provide advice on a range of common issues for pet owners.
In addition to those listed below the nurses will also carry out post-operative checks, micro-chipping and routine procedures for your pet i.e. nail clipping/tick removal and anal gland discharging.
Nurse clinics are offered daily during the week with appointments from 8.30am – 6.00pm.
Some of these clinics are offered free of charge and others will incur a small charge, please phone our main reception on 01884 255336 for more information on prices and available appointments.
Visits
These can be arranged by prior appointment Click here to contact us.
If you have a lot of pets requiring routine consultations (vaccination, worming etc) or if your pet gets very stressed by visiting the vets this can be a very useful service.
Also in the difficult situation where your pet requires euthanasia, this can be an option where your pet is put to sleep quietly at home. Unfortunately visits are not always possible, or appropriate, for urgent or complicated situations.
Emergency Care and out of hours
Outside surgery hours we operate a 24 hour service every day of the year for genuine emergencies.
We don't employ agency vets to do our out of hours work so, if you have to call us out for an emergency, you will always see a familiar face.
For out of hours emergencies call us on 01884 255336.
